Dongfang Special Steel's First Rolling Mill Heating Furnace Intelligent Combustion Control System Receives Owner Commendation

Recently, the Level 2 Optimization Control System project for the heating furnace section of the Dongfang Special Steel Co., Ltd. 800,000-ton high-quality bar production line project, undertaken by MCC Huatian Electric Corporation, received a letter of commendation from the owner. This represents further recognition from the owner following its official handover on November 30, 2024, demonstrating MCC Huatian's technical strength in the field of steel intelligentization.  

 

This system is designed for Level 2 intelligent control of the high-quality bar special steel heating furnace. By tracking and accumulating data such as billet composition/specifications, heating process parameters, temperatures, and furnace gas composition, it self-learns and optimizes the heat transfer coefficient values for various sections of the heating furnace and billet in three dimensions. It dynamically adjusts and calculates coefficients to achieve optimal control of furnace temperature, air-fuel ratio, and fuel consumption under the constraints of production capacity, billet temperature, and oxidation burning loss. Based on completing relevant data acquisition, AI status monitoring, furnace temperature optimization control, air-fuel ratio optimization control, and energy consumption analysis, and integrating with the owner's business management systems by interfacing with MES and the rolling mill PCS, the system employs iterative feedforward optimization. This has effectively improved the process control and management precision of the No.1 Rolling Mill heating furnace, playing a significant role in advancing Changzhou Dongfang Special Steel Co., Ltd.'s core strategy of "Quality Development, Green Development, and Safe Development."  

 

The development of this intelligent combustion control system for the Dongfang Special Steel No.1 Rolling Mill heating furnace involved optimizations to the furnace temperature model and upgrades to the temperature control operation methods, enhancements to the dynamic self-optimizing model for air-fuel ratio, the addition of a rational gas distribution function, and the implementation of furnace pressure and flue gas temperature monitoring and alarm functions. These improvements further ensure long-term stable combustion and automatic control of the heating furnace during production. The project team conducted extensive, repeated hands-on training for onsite operators on system functions, ensuring they fully mastered the operational procedures. This guaranteed the full utilization of the intelligent combustion control system's capabilities, enabling it to better serve the management and control of the production process.  

 

MCC Huatian's "Intelligent Combustion Control System for Heating Furnaces" is the applied result of the research and development outcomes from China MCC's "181 Plan" project, "Key Technologies for the Intelligentization of Hot-Rolled Bar and Section Steel Workshops." It is a typical engineering demonstration application for the intelligent manufacturing of hot-rolled bars, developed based on the company-level R&D project "Green Production Complete Technology and Application for Heating Furnaces Based on Intelligent Control." From R&D to engineering implementation, the Intelligent Combustion Control System is rooted in onsite process operations and business management. Its gradual implementation and transformation, from the Yongfeng Steel project to the Zhongtian High-Quality Steel heating furnace intelligent combustion control system, has continuously gained recognition from the company and business departments. It has been successfully applied in projects such as the Jiaxing Dongfang Special Steel plate and strip heating furnace EPC project, the Guigang Steel Rolling Bar Production Line Upgrade EPC project, the Yuhua Steel two high-speed wire rod line heating furnace L2 system project, and the Oman ALJAZEERA small section mill engineering heating furnace intelligent combustion system project.
